La Grande Maison, 13 Grande Rue, Chénérailles

The house

La Grande Maison is situated a stone's throw from the medieval centre of Chénérailles, which was an important town in pre-Revolutionary France. We are working with Gîtes de France and should soon get 3 épis, or possibly 4. Our 19th century house has been sympathetically restored, keeping many original features where possible, and decorated to a high standard – reflecting our passion for Art Deco.

There is an attractive sun-drenched courtyard at the back, where flowers flourish and we grow our own tomatoes. Guests can sit in the shade and enjoy an aperitif.

The Courtyard

The granite-built house has a long history and appears in several postcards of Chénérailles produced in the early 1900s. The images below are from the collection of the late Pierre Lavédrine, a former Mayor of Chénérailles, to whom we are very grateful.
